Strategic Planning and Execution

Collaborating with more than 50 academic medical centers and research institutions across the country on strategic planning engagements has provided us with a national perspective of the trends and challenges facing academic health centers today and a well-developed understanding of the clinical, educational, and research priorities that come together in an academic medical center.

Many AMCs with long track records of success in stable and predictable markets must now reorient their institutions to the new realities of the post-reform health care environment.  Opportunities, threats, and institutional blind spots must be examined with a fresh perspective on what the future may bring. Successful strategic planning processes must also consider the critical relationships among the medical school leaders, faculty, hospital leaders, and staff, and provide opportunities for key stakeholders to be engaged and demonstrate commitment to change throughout the planning and implementation process.
